Salesforce produced the world's largest tech event - Dreamforce. In the spring of 2021 they sponsored a class with ArtCenter to see how current students could help them reimagine Dreamforce so it can continue to grow during COVID and beyond while capitalizing on the unique opportunity to usher Dreamforce as an innovator in larger event gatherings.

Our solution Dream Challenge, is a philanthropy activity designed specific for Dreamforce. Follow and obey Salesforce's company values, Dream Challenge is an activity that uses collaborative approaches to social issues that brings diverse people together to spark innovative ideas and build on each other's insights. The main goal of this activity is to provide people a platform to gain diverse insights to fuel social change worldwide during quarantine.

What Dreamforce does well

It was important early on to be able to understand past and current Dreamforce events, such as their visions and approaches, so that we could help design a new event to amend what is missing. The diagram on this page shows synthesized bullet points through desk research and meetings with stakeholders. The most important takeaway is that Dreamforce is a value-driven event that is meant to create explorative experiences for attendees.

In addition, we hoped to have deeper knowledge on current social gathering activities. The main focus of our research is to investigate the strategies social gatherings are currently adopting to connect people quarantined at home, and to make a normally offline event still appealing to participants after the pandemic.
I started categorizing and sorting how different social gatherings are holding their events and what they are doing to connect people into a 4-quadrant categorical diagram. Through this digram, I realized that the majority events are choosing hybrid solutions to achieve thei goals. However, not all of the events can truly make attendees feel connected as part of a community. See more research here. (Maybe throw in an example to explain this diagram)
Opportunities

Moving forward to the design the challenge, we want to take advantage of what Dreamforce already excels at, and smartly combine that with our insights from previous researches. We aim to design a hybrid event that can bring people together, collaborating on creating solutions for social issues wherever they are physically located. In our event, we want people to be able to foster meaningful interactions and make contributions for regions that need help.
Activity roadmap

The whole activity will last a year long, and it has several different parties to corporate with each other. The  solution operation team is selected from announced solutions. DreamChallenge will have specialists to help them from solution revise to implement. Meanwhile, everyone who’s interested with the activity could comment on updates to provide new ideas.

Once a finalist is chosen, a top solution will show up on the challenge detail page. The operation team in that local region will continuously post updates in the top solution area. Everyone can track the latest development of the topic they are interested in, and also comment their concerns, ideas that they believe are beneficial to the operation.

The stakeholders were all surprised by our devotion in expressing Salesforce's branding after our presentation. We are delighted that we comprehended Dreamforce values, and was able to incorporate that into our design thinking.

This project is born in reaction to COVID-19. During this unprecedented time, it seems like globalization is hard to actualize its real impact. Our end goal is to use technology as a demographic tool to connect human power, and to use design as an innovation package to make charity activities work well during quarantine.
